I was walking around the local Zeller’s store the other day and one thing kept going through my mind. The person who laid out the floor plan in the store was a king idiot. What scares me, is that I think all the Zellers stores are done the same way in Calgary and probably Canada. There’s a team of idiots.
A Zeller’s store typically has two floors with an escalator between them. Around the escalators is a set of bars which prevents you from trying to push a shopping cart onto the escalator. I guess that makes sense. Don’t want shopping carts falling down the stairs and killing anyone.
The main floor has all the doors to the outside world. To the mall, or parking lot.
What doesn’t make sense is why the @#$@ they put all the big, bulky, boxy, heavy, expensive items on the second floor! So, all the items you would buy at Zeller’s and need a cart for, you can’t use a cart!!!! Am I missing something?? Were they drunk??
The main floor is all clothing. This stuff actually could be carried around easily on your arm without much trouble. I can probably imagine they’re trying to attract the women to come in and shop for clothes. But it’s Zeller’s. They’re cheap clothes. I’m sure any woman wanting to find cheap stuff would know to go to the other floor.
It’s as if Zeller’s doesn’t really want you buying larger items there. Here’s the only possible scenario given their setup. You walk in to the store and head up the escalator. You find the kitchen appliance you need, but now it’s too big to carry around while looking at other stuff. Your only choice is to carry it back down the escalator, find a checkout, and leave. If they put all that stuff on the main level, you could throw it in the cart, and wander around picking up more stuff. Probably spend a few more hundred dollars. But that’s not the Zeller’s way.
Glad I don’t shop there often.
