Where's my iPad?

This has been a most stressful day.  Every morning this week has produced strange dreams of using iPad like devices.  But today is the day!  It’s supposed to show up!

I’ve been watching the Fedex site since Monday.  It started out in China, made its way to Alaska, then went right past me to Mississauga, Ontario.  There it sat for day, then finally started on its way back to Calgary.

That’s where things got strange.  It apparently arrived in Calgary at 8:32am, but the Fedex tracking site didn’t mention that until about 10:30.  What good is tracking if it’s two hours behind?

So, at 9am it was sitting at the Calgary sorting facility.  I assumed they’d be putting it on a truck.  Then at 11:30, they updated the site with two new notices (I didn’t see this status until around 1pm).  Still at the Calgary facility, then a couple minutes later, “Delivery Exception”.  Reason given was “Future Delivery Requested”.  The delivery time said 16:30 May 31.  I was screaming at this point!

All I could think of was that the Apple delivery notification message said it would deliver on May 31. I assumed this just meant that they didn’t think it would get there on Friday, so it would be Monday at the latest.

At around 1:30pm, I decided to call the Apple support number to find out what the heck is going on. Why was I being forced to wait until Monday while others were walking into the store today for it?  This really made me regret my decision to order online.

After being passed to three different people, they couldn’t see any reason why it would have been delayed.  They did mention that Fedex had a delayed flight which was delaying some iPads but those seemed to be in Edmonton, not Calgary.  I knew mine was already in Calgary.

So, next call at 2pm was to Fedex to see what was going on.  I tried the automated tracker they have on the phone.  I entered my tracking number and got a response saying they already attempted delivery but noone was there to receive it.  This was an ABSOLUTE LIE!  So, I waited for an operator.

Apparently the operator had a completely different status display than what the web site was giving me.  She said because of the amount of deliveries this has caused, they have extra trucks out. In order for them to mark the package as being on these extra trucks, they had to put in the delivery exceptions, but I would receive it on Friday.

Sure enough, at 3:30pm, a Fedex truck pulled up to the house and handed me my shiny new iPad.  🙂

So, no problems with Apple. They were very polite and helpful.  Fedex on the other hand is just a pit of confusion.  Three different responses on tracking my package.  The operator was the only useful one of the bunch. Thank god the delivery driver knew what was going on.

Now, time to play.
